Integrating TradeStation with Collective2

Overview

If you use TradeStation to generate your trades, now you can automatically make TradeStation enter your trades into your Collective2 trading system, with no human involvement.

You can do this by using a small software program, provided for free by Collective2, called "c2tray.exe". You'll need to keep this program running on the same computer that your copy of TradeStation runs on.

How to download C2Tray

You can download from www.collective2.com/downloads/c2tray.exe

(Click the link above. You may be asked if you want to "Save" or "Run" the file. Choose Save. Then remember where on your drive you saved the file. We recommend saving it directly to your C: drive. It's easy to find there.)

Trouble with the link above? Some users may not be allowed to download an ".exe" file due to security concerns. If you can't download the file above, try the following link. It allows you to download a ".zip" file instead: link to zip file

The first time you run c2tray, you may see a "security warning" like this:

Just click Run to tell your computer that c2tray is okay to run.

User Manual

The online user manual can be found here. Please read it for set-up help.

Troubleshooting/Set up

Please read the manual above for detailed setup instructions.

If your problem is that your C2Tray application used to work perfectly, but now doesn't work, read this:

Do you double-click the c2tray.exe application, but it doesn't start up? This indicates you have a corrupt "preferences file." The way to solve this problem is to look for the following file in your C: drive: c2trayprefs.txt. Drag it into the trash. Then restart c2tray. That might solve the problem. If it does solve the problem, then you'll need to re-enter your C2 login email and C2 password into the C2tray preferences screen. (Right-click the c2tray icon in the lower-right corner of your screen, once it's running, to get to Preferences screen.)

If your problem is that c2tray never worked, read this:

The first thing we need to do is to make sure that TradeStation can communicate with C2Tray. ..

Here's how to test that:

1) Download C2tray. Double-click to run.

2) Go to TradeStation. Select "TradeManager" like this:

3) Select View (from the TradeStation menu bar), then TradeManager Preferences...

4) You will see this window:

5) Make sure Enable e-mail notification is checked.

6) Click the button Configure...

7) You'll see the following window:

8) Fill in your email address, and any other email address. (The second email address doesn't matter.) Type 127.0.0.1 where is asks for your SMTP Server name.

9) Make sure c2tray is running. If so, you'll see the

icon in the right-side "tray icon" area of your screen.

10) Click the Test button in the lower left of the TradeStation "Messaging" window.

11) After a moment (it may take up to 20 seconds) you should see a message from C2Tray appear. If you see this message, it means that TradeStation can communicate with C2Tray:

12) Don't see the message? Uh-oh. Something is not set up correctly.

Biggest source of problems:
Trying to use optional "Email Forwarding" feature in c2tray preferences

Email forwarding is an optional and advanced feature made available to technically-adept users. Not all email service providers will allow email forwarding. (For example, just to name one, Yahoo does not.) Email forwarding is not required to use c2tray successfully. So, if you are having trouble, the first thing to do is make sure you are not using email forwarding. Just delete any information in the three forwarding-related fields of your c2tray preferences window:

Getting an "Error connecting to server socket" message?

Something is blocking your SMTP port. Usually this means you have an anti-virus program running. Try shutting down the antivirus application temporarily, then trying the test procedure above. If you are now able to send a test message, you know you need to reconfigure your antivirus program to allow TradeStation to send emails via SMTP.
